Is Wenger Chasing Higuain Seriously This Time?

As things look for the Gunners with the season looming, there is a disinct lack of quality striking options for Arsene Wenger. After France’s exploits at the European Championships 2016 and the use in almost every game of Olivier Giroud the French striker has certainly deserved his 3 week holiday in order to recharge his batteries in preparation for another full slog in the English competitions.

If the season started today Wenger would only have Theo Walcott and Chuba Akpom to choose from as strikers for Arsenal’s first rather tough fixture against Klopp’s newly remodeled Liverpool. Sadly Danny Welbeck is due to be sidelined until February and so therefore is totally unavailable and since Wenger has been rebuffed up until now in his pursuit of Champions, Leicester’s Jamie Vardy, Wenger has been rumoured to be enquiring about the two L’s – Lacazette and Lukaku. Neither of these transfers look like they could be happening either.

Arsenal have signed 21-year-old Japan forward Takuma Asano from J-League side Sanfrecce Hiroshima who has earned five caps for Japan but can hardly be expected to be able to contribute in the early season and Walcott will supposedly not be match fit. According to the Telegraph Arsenal have returned their attention to Argentine hitman Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli and their interest is seemingly quite serious as if they do not land him they would be looking to start their first Barclay’s Premier League game with Akpom upfront who does not have a senior goal to his name.

Whether Arsenal, the Board and the manager will pay what it takes to sign Higuain remains to be seen but surely this is just the type of signing the Gunners need to make in light of all the eventualities which could effect the club – we shall see…
