Is The Lack Of Arsenal Players In The England Squad A Concern?

So there has a been a distinct lack of Gunners selected by England in recent times. No Arsenal players with the exception of Jack Wilshere went to Euro 2016 with England under the supervision of Roy Hodgson and Arsenal were almost overlooked for the current internationals were it not for the selection of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott. Walcott did get the start on the right hand side of the attack against Malta, based on a good season so far for the Gunners and had a decent game before making way for United’s Marcus Rashford. The Ox however did not get on the park for England but at least can feel good about getting his spot back in the squad after missing out in the summer.

The situation is not however as bad as it appears as Danny Welbeck would certainly have gone to Euro 2016 with his country were it not for his injury and he likely would be in the squad now if he were fit. Calum Chambers and Kieran Gibbs are close to the England squad too and would likely be in it as would Wilshere if they were appearing in the Premier League with the Gunners. This thought has been reinforced as the FA has recently announced on their official website that Gibbs has been called up to replace the injured Ryan Bertand in the England squad for the Slovenia game on Tuesday. So it would seem the lack of Arsenal players appearing for England is not as bad as it first appears and who knows if Arsene Wenger takes up the reins in the near future as has been widely reported by many media outlets more Arsenal players may get the call soon.
