Is Ospina Really As Good As Statistics Say He Is?

There have been a lot of rumors that Arsenal are looking to bring in a new keeper. Former club legends have criticized the fact that Wenger did not push for a more experienced stopper and that lacking a quality goalkeeper could cost the Gunners important trophies such as the Premier League title. According to Metro, they could not have been more wrong as David Ospina became the most efficient player in his position. After only 18 games played, the Colombian has managed to impress with his talent and efficiency. He quickly replaced Szczesny who was Arsenal’s number one for the past couple of years and continued to improve even after securing a place in the starting squad. Since July Ospina has featured in 18 games and kept clean sheets for half that.

Recent statistics show that out of all the keepers featured in more than 10 games this season, Ospina is leading the charts. He has averaged the least number of goals conceded per game, he has the most clean sheets and has saved the largest number of shots sent his way. Even though he was out due to injury and did not play all throughout some of the season, he is still a player to consider for next season. He might not yet be in the same league with Cech or Cassilas but he is getting pretty close. It will be difficult for Wenger to decide whether he needs to spend money on a new keeper or not.
