Is A Change In Transfer Policy Needed To Retain The Big Stars?

It is widely reported that Mesut Ozil has just two years left on his current Arsenal contract and both he, his representatives and Arsenal are said to have commenced discussion on the terms of a new deal. Ozil himself according to the Daily mail has however come out to say he is not in a huge hurry to do the deal. This is coming weeks after reports emerged that Bayern Munich and Barca are interested in signing the former Real Madrid star.

The fact that the World Cup winner hasn’t signed a new deal is worrying. Especially with Bayern Munich and Barca said to be interested in signing him. With Arsenal not doing so well this season, there is a great risk that the German could decide to leave Arsenal and go to a club where he feels he will have a better chance of winning titles.

Arsenal simply can’t afford to lose Mesut Ozil but unfortunately we may have to unless Wenger finally makes some big moves in the transfer market. Players like Ozil are winners and the German surely knows Arsenal will continue to struggle unless Wenger finally accepts the fact that we are no longer in 2003 and spend the money needed to make the team strong.

The current Arsenal team isn’t far away from greatness and the only people holding the club back seems to be Ivan Gazidis and his troops. Signing only Petr Cech last summer was not enough and the poor performance from the team this season has proved that beyond reasonable doubt. Will the same mistake be repeated in the summer? Wenger has in the last four summers made the same mistakes of not bringing in the players the club needs choosing to go for cheaper and lower quality players – Podolski, Gervinho, Squillaci, Santos, Chamakh along others. This can’t continue for long if Arsenal doesn’t want to lose their key players.

Arsenal were simply lucky they were able to get Mesut ozil from Real Madrid and if they lose him, it will be no one’s fault but the Board’s. Aside Mesut Ozil, players like Sanchez could also want to leave the club if Wenger is not giving them the chance to favourably compete for titles.

Sanchez and Ozil have tasted what it is like to win titles, they want it more and more and if Arsenal can’t give them the opportunity to win, they are surely going to leave especially as big clubs such as Bayern Munich, Juventus, PSG, Manchester City and Barca are interested.

They both will know if they leave Arsenal, they can make more money and at the same time win titles. Arsenal might have finally loosen their transfer policy as let’s be honest, what we pay players is much more than what clubs like Bayern Munich pay.
