Inter Closing In On Joel Campbell

Even though Arsenal wanted to keep Campbell around after the World Cup, it seems the Costa Rican will be leaving at the beginning of the year. The youngster has failed to impress Wenger in training and has received little chances to actually prove himself in important games or any games for that matter. It is still a mystery why he was not given the opportunity to become one of Arsenal’s main goal scorers despite having a great deal of qualities which recommended him. His speed and strength could have been quite useful during a tough season such as this. Fortunately for him, Inter Milan have been interested in a transfer since the beginning of the season. The 22 year old could continue the rest of the season in Serie A where he will probably receive many more chances to play than at the Emirates.

With Walcott back and with Sanchez in amazing shape, making an appearance is going to be more and more difficult. With that in mind, Campbell might finally forget about his dream to become a team regular under Wenger’s command. To be fair, he could have received more chances to play. His impressive World Cup campaign made people believe that Arsenal did not need to transfer any more strikers and that between he and Podolski they would be the next stars in Wenger’s attack.

According to the Daily Mirror Campbell is priced at about £7million if Inter decide to make his loan a permanent transfer. It would be a good deal for Arsenal who have made some money by sending the Costa Rican on loan each season and as for Podolski all he does is seem to score when he gets a short cameo as he did for Arsenal vs Anderlecht where he scored the last minute winner, saving severe blushes all around and then last night where in a very rare start he scored for Germany vs Gibraltar.
