Hull – Arsenal: Match Preview & Prediction

The Gunners head to Hull as favorites after Wenger’s side won their last two domestic clashes. Currently Arsenal are tied with The Tigers who started with an unexpected win against Leicester, struggled against Manchester United and could only just find their way against Burnley either.  A win at KCOM Stadium might even take the North Londoners to the podium where City lead with a maximum of 12 points out of 4 games.

Arsenal announced that Ramsey will continue to be unavailable until late September meaning that he will miss all games until then including the one against Chelsea. Giroud and Walcott are also out due to injury and will not be featured against Hull. Other than that there are Gabriel, Mertesacker and Welbeck who have been on the recovery list for a while now. The Brazilian is expected to be back for the game against the Blues but he is unlikely to make the cut for the starting eleven despite Mustafi’s unconvincing performance against PSG.

It terms of numbers, Arsenal have the balance leaning in their favor. Hull haven’t won a game against Wenger’s side since 2008 and are definitely looking like the underdogs right now. The Gunners also have a positive record when it comes to facing newly promoted teams as the Londoners registered only wins starting March 2012.

Cazorla will be the man to watch for the Gunners as the Spaniard has shown excellent form. He seems to have recovered both physically and mentally after spending a lot of time in the infirmary. Alexis Sanchez also has a good record against Hull and is expected to be the player providing the goals this Saturday. In his previous games against the Tigers, the Chilean scored 4 times and provided 2 assists. It`s hard to tell though if he will do just as good this weekend given the fact that he is used out of position. Wenger’s improvisation against PSG did not work out as planned. Sanchez, while excellent in front of goal, is much better as a winger than as a false 9. According to The Guardian, Perez will play up front and Iwobi will be moved on the left. Sanchez will cover the right wing as Walcott is unavailable due to knee problems.

While Arsenal’s lot looks excellent on paper, there’s still a lot of room for improvement. Both Mustafi and Perez have a lot to prove and this game might be the perfect opportunity.

We think Arsenal will win 3-1 on the day.
