Hull 1 – 4 Arsenal: Is This Arsenal’s Best Staring Eleven?

It looks like Mustafi is the quickest to adapt out of the players Wenger transferred this summer. The German has been part of the starting line-up for the past couple of games despite showing some gaps in his positioning on the pitch and also in his game relationship with his fellow defenders.  The fact that Perez was sent in to play for just 2 minutes plus stoppage time and that Coquelin was preferred to Xhaka is sort of worrying as there are great expectations when it comes to these two. There is still time for them to improve as the season is long and the games are many and Xhaka already showed his class with his stunning first goal for the club.

Here is what Wenger had to say after the game. [Quotes provided by the BBC]

“I feel overall it was a positive performance after playing away in the Champions League and away again today.

“We started well, dominated and were fluent. They defended well but overall we managed to score the goal, then after the missed penalty we had to be serious and score the next goal.”

There is some doubt though given the fact that Hull had to play without Jake Livermore for 50 minutes, time in which Arsenal scored their winning goals. Regardless of the situation, there were some stand-out players who truly made an impact and impressed. First there’s Iwobi who at just 20 years of age, shows a rare kind of maturity and just the right attitude to make him Wenger’s number one pick for the left side of the attack. He is incredibly intuitive, fast, aggressive and creative. He can pass, run and shoot and he does it in style. One more thing which is quite important is that he looks very constant in his performances, thing that Wenger desperately wants from each player.

Alexis Sanchez also needs to be mentioned as he had the biggest impact on the game. Despite missing a penalty, he was at the right place at the right time and as always, gave it his all for every ball. Walcott was on the same wave length as the Chilean, managing to score a goal and create several chances which were denied by a very in form keeper. Last but not least there’s Xhaka whose goal made even Hull fans clap. He looked composed and accurate in his decisions, which is something the Gunners need. It will be tough for Wenger to make up his mind when it comes to the midfielders who will be playing behind Ozil. When Ramsey gets back, Cazorla, Xhaka, Coquelin, Elneny and the Welshman will all fight for the same positions and looking at the way they played up until now, it will not be an easy decision.
