Henry: Arsenal need a striker and midfielder

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry believes his former club need to make at least two more signings before the transfer window slams shut next week.

The Gunners were held to a goalless draw by Liverpool on Monday as they failed to score for the second home game in succession. Arsenal have been the least active Premier League club in the transfer market, only bringing in goalkeeper Petr Cech from Chelsea.

Now, Sky Sports pundit Thierry Henry has admitted he agrees with the Arsenal fans cries for a new striker and midfielder to be signed by the end of the summer window.

“It’s going to be a massive week (for Arsenal).” he said on Monday Night Football.

“Are they going to buy someone up front and in the middle of the park?”

“If you look at the game (against Liverpool) they were missing a lot of players, so maybe they should have gone for more, but they still need a holding midfielder and a striker.”

“Not because they haven’t scored for two games at home, but because we have all being saying it before the season started, before these two home games.”

“They also have a massive game away at Newcastle on Saturday.”

The draw against Liverpool means the Gunners have taken four points from their opening three games of the season with manager Arsene Wenger conceding already that it has been an “average” start for his side.

It is clear Arsenal need a fresh face in the midfield to sit in front of the defence, but it seems as if Wenger is reluctant to make the signing. As for a striker, Arsenal have been in need of one since the departure of Van Persie – yet it seems the Gunners are set to play another season without a top-class talisman.
