Gunners Considering Doing Business With Leicester

Even though it feels like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been around for ages, he is only 22 years of age. The youngster joined Arsenal in 2011 and since then, struggled to become Wenger’s first pick for the starting eleven. He is in a situation very similar to that of Walcott whose presence at the Emirates has been inconsistent due to injury and loss of form. Oxlade-Chamberlain is looking to go in a different direction than his fellow team-mate who has been under contract with the Gunners for 10 years and still trying to become the player everyone expects him to become. The Ox is willing to say goodbye to Arsenal in order to get more time on the pitch and get more exposure. Playing just a small number of times per season is getting him off the national team’s radar and is building frustration which can sometimes be seen on the field.

In all the years spent at the Emirates, Oxlade-Chamberlain has made 149 appearances in which he scored 14 times and provided 21 assists. He has rarely found his spot in the starting eleven and was mostly used out of position. He was a second choice and when he finally broke through, injuries took him down. Currently he is facing tough competition from players like Walcott, Campbell and now Iwobi. He is used often as a second half substitute and takes on defensive responsibilities despite being an attacker. If Wenger decides to keep Gnabry as well after the German returns from WBA, it could be that Oxlade-Chamberlain is ready to leave. Even though Gnabry is mainly a left-winger, he has been used by Arsenal in a similar position as the Ox, and has been promised a chance in the near future.

According to the Sunday Express, there is interest coming from two rival clubs when it comes to selling Oxlade-Chamberlain. Both Leicester and Liverpool would be willing to start negotiations for the winger who is now valued at around £12million. Rumors have it that he might even be part of a swap that would bring a striker to Emirates. Unfortunately, I can’t see which of Leicester or Liverpool’s strikers might fit in under Wenger’s management. Vardy is very unlikely to leave next season and Sturridge is unlikely to return to London. Benteke would not fit in because he has a very similar profile to Giroud and Origi I doubt will be for sale anytime soon. Arsenal were also linked to Kante but signing another midfielder would be useless right now after securing Xhaka and seeing Elneny perform. The only tempting swap would be to bring Mahrez to Emirates and play him as a right winger where he feels best. It might cost Arsenal some extra money but he would be worth it if a deal could be done which is very doubtful.
