Do Arsenal Need To Start Looking For A New Keeper?

It was sort of inevitable for David Ospina to want guaranteed 1st team football at some point. Even with some time on the pitch, the Colombian is not satisfied and is looking to leave Emirates by the end of June. Who can blame him though? He has quality and he is 27. He could easily play on a regular basis for other teams who have high European expectations and who need a secure pair of hands to guard their goal. Unfortunately for Arsenal’s 2nd keeper, Arsenal will not likely promote him anytime soon as Cech is here to stay and most importantly continues to impress. Even though he is 34, the Czech international still has a good 3-4 years left in him, time which Ospina does not want to spend on the bench.

According to the Mirror, Turkey might be the preferred destination for Ospina who has already received an offer from Besiktas. The Turkish side have won the domestic competition and are going to play in the Champions League next season which is an important incentive for Arsenal’s keeper. It is not the first time Besiktas have expressed their desire to buy Ospina who was on their radar a year back as well when Cech put pen on paper and sealed the deal with the Gunners.

Getting back to Ospina, there might be a way to keep him at Emirates by offering him full ownership of the domestic Cups or even of the Champions League group stages. Not sure if it`s worth the risk though. Currently Arsenal will have Matt Macey at their disposal but that’s far from enough. Szczesny will probably leave as he is entering his final two years of contract. Who could replace the Colombian keeper though? Well, Tim Krul could be an option. The freshly relegated keeper who is 28-years-old would surely jump at the opportunity of getting back to the Premier League. There could also be a more interesting option which is Victor Valdes. The Spaniard is out of contract this summer and could very likely take on the role of an Arsenal substitute given his situation for the past couple of years.
