Could This German Star Be Worth Almost £40m?

It`s no secret that Arsenal will need to bring in someone to replace Flamini and possibly Arteta. Coquelin is good but, left alone on his position, he will either be exhausted by mid-season or may pick up one of those injuries that only let you play every two months or so. There’s also a matter of competition. Just look at what happened when Walcott started competing with Giroud. The Frenchman improved and started scoring more, proving that being the only one with a particular role in the lot will not do you too much good. Unfortunately, defensive midfielders are kind of a rare breed. They were at least. The latest couple of generations have produced some great players. One member of that generation who would probably fit in well with Wenger’s formation is 23-year-old Granit Xhaka. Currently with Borussia Mönchengladbach, this left-footed DM is one of the most sought after players on the market. Even if his deal is set to expire in 2019, the player’s agent and even the club’s manager admitted to not knowing if he will continue in the Bundesliga.

The good news, joke or not, is that Xhaka is a possible Arsenal fan. Aside from being a massive Premier League admirer, he could also be tempted to become a Gunner. According to the Daily Express, he recently stated that his dream is to play at least one or two games for a PL team. Check out what else he said regarding his favorite shirt number: “That was my first professional number at Basel,” Xhaka said. “It’s even tattooed on my back. I would also like to wear it in the future. It was also here in Gladbach, with Amin Younes. And at Arsenal Coquelin has it. I’ve spoken with him; he would like to take another number!”

All joking aside, would he help Arsenal in any way? Given his recent performances, he would definitely be a player to consider. He looks like a combination between all of Arsenal’s current defensive midfielders and more. He is aggressive, he has great passing skills and he is determined. He also looks like he always has things under control and that he is willing to take risks. The downside is that he can end up costing around £40m and knowing Wenger, Xhaka would be the only transfer of the summer. Not sure if he is what the Gunners need the most though.
