Could Giroud Bring One Of These Two World Cup Winners To Emirates?

Giroud could be saying goodbye to Arsenal after 4 years spent at Emirates. Even though the Frenchman still has 2 years left out of his contract, his recent performances and the predicted changes waiting to take place in Wenger’s formation might point to an early change between the club and the striker. According to Metro, Wolfsburg have shown interest in the France international who will be turning 30 this September. The bigger news behind all this is that Giroud’s departure could trigger the arrival of one of two World Cup winners. Julian Draxler and Andre Schurrle are currently under contract with the German side and would surely jump at the opportunity of playing for a club as big as Arsenal. Either of the two would bring quality to the Gunners’ game which has been suffering when it comes to the attack. Schurrle in particular may feel he has more to prove in the Premier League after his shortened spell with Chelsea.

How will they fit in though? Draxler plays a similar position to Ozil while Schurrle is most efficient as a left winger or striker. Looking at the lot Wenger has right now it`s going to be difficult but not impossible. Draxler has been featured as a winger or in a similar position to Ramsey so if Arsenal’s boss decides to go with a diamond formation down the middle, Ozil could be right behind the strikers with Draxler on the left and Ramsey or Wilshere down the right. Coquelin or Elneny would support the two.

Schurrle on the other hand would fit in the formation Wenger is lining up right now. Sanchez could move on the right leaving the speedy German to raid the defenses on the other side of the pitch. What would happen to Iwobi, Campbell, Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain then? Both moves could mean Sanchez might be given a chance to play as a number 9. It`s been speculated that the Chilean will be pushed forward as his thirst for goal proved larger than any of his fellow strikers.

Including Giroud in a swap would lower Wolfsburg’s financial expectations a whole lot, thus giving Wenger the chance to actually sign Draxler and Schurrle. Both players are young, promising and have a lot of experience but it still seems hard to imagine Wenger letting Giroud move on as the boss seems to favour the striker.
