Cerci Becomes Arsenal’s Number One Target

Arsenal will have make some quick moves on the transfer market after Giroud found out he will be off the pitch for the rest of 2014 at the very least. According to the Daily Mail, Alessio Cerci has become a priority for Wenger who will need an experienced striker up front despite the boss saying he has enough cover. The Italian forward who is now playing for Torino, has had a great couple of seasons since leaving Roma. He reached the peak of his form in 2012 after which he got called to represent his country. The 27 year old scored 21 times for his current team which is excellent for a striker who only performed in Serie A.

Arsenal are not the only ones who are targeting Cerci. Southampton are also keen on signing the Italian international who is under contract with Torino until 2016. Out of the two clubs, it appears that the Gunners are the more appealing destination for the former Roma man. The problem is that Cerci is not a sure thing as signing him may not offer the needed solutions for Wenger especially with the Gunners set on improving on the number of trophies they managed to land last season. Arsenal have had their fair share of badly-assessed incoming players including last season.

Despite being under pressure, Wenger will probably take his time with Cerci and will wait until the last day of transfers (tomorrow) before placing a bid for the 27 year old. Currently he is among the few options Arsenal have for replacing Giroud who last season was the only forward Wenger could depend on when things got tough and Sanogo’s performance today vs Leicester only seems to confirm that Wenger needs to bring in a striker.
