The north London club were the team to catch in the first half of last season but slowly faded away as heavy defeats against their title rivals cost them. After winning their first trophy in nine years in the form of the FA Cup, the Gunners are ready to kick on and fight for the league in the 2014-15 season.

They have bought a world class player in the form of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona and Gibbs has hailed his quality. According to the Standard, he said, “When you face Alexis in training, you know it’s not going to be the best day you have as a defender. He’s a top player and he will definitely bring something extra to us. He has been like an animal in training. He’s everywhere. He just doesn’t stop running.”

Gibbs also believes that Arsenal can go one better than last season and clinch the Premier League title. He said, “Is he the 20-goal-a-season striker every team needs? Yes. Last season we were top for quite a while before slipping away. This year we want to do exactly the same but go a step further.”

“That’s what we need – we can’t just sign a superstar and then say to ourselves: ‘Ok, we are going to win everything now’. We needed them to come in with a great attitude. And that is what’s happened.”

So the quality signings are rubbing off on the rest of the squad and surely confidence is rising now.
