Benzema Snubs Arsenal Move
The Gunners are looking for alternate targets after being rebuffed in their attempts to sign Liverpool talisman Luis Suarez. The Reds have made it clear to Arsenal that the Uruguayan is not for sale, which has prompted Wenger to turn his attention to Madrid’s Benzema.
The Spanish giants are on the verge on announcing a record-breaking deal to sign Tottenham Hotspurs’ Gareth Bale for a reported £85 million even though it seems like Man United may be making a late play for him. The arrival of the Welshman may threaten Benzema’s position in the first-team, and the France international is wanted by his countryman at the Emirates.
Wenger has a huge transfer kitty at his disposal and is prepared to spend in the region of £30 million for the 25-year-old, formerly a target of Manchester United. However, in what constitutes another blow to the Gunners transfer plans, Benzema’s agent, Karim Djaziri, has ruled out the possibility of his client joining the north London side.
According to ESPN, Benzema will not be linking up with Arsenal this summer. His agent said, “We can’t stop the rumours. But I tell you: Karim will not go to Arsenal. It’s never been a question for him and no contact has been made.”
“He will stay at Madrid. The probable arrival of Gareth Bale at Real Madrid doesn’t threaten him at all. Cristiano Ronaldo and Bale will play on the wings and Karim in the centre.”
In fact, Djaziri revealed that talks are ongoing between the club and the player over a possible extension. He said, “Karim could very well finish his career at Real, the club of his dreams.”
Arsenal’s transfer window has been characterised by their targets declining to move to the Emirates, and with only a week left for the window to close, Wenger needs to pull up his socks or face a wrath from the Gunners faithful.
There are still many targets that the Frenchman can target and it will be interesting to see who his fall-back option is. They have already missed out on Stevan Jovetic, Gonzalo Higuain, Suarez and now Benzema but the likes of Jackson Martinez, Leandro Damiao, Samuel Eto’o amongst others are still up for grabs.
