Arsenal’s Worst Transfer Rumours: Hall Of Mediocrity

Arsenal have been linked with numerous top class players over the years, but there have been rumours linking them to some unlikely targets too, and here is a list of 5 of the worst reported transfer targets over the years, according to Metro:

1. Salomon Kalou

Ever since Kalou left Chelsea to join Lille in France, the attacker has continually been linked with a move to Arsenal for no rhyme or reason. The attacker had a decent spell at Stamford Bridge, but could never establish a first team spot at the club due to Didier Drogba’s presence. Hence, Kalou was linked but surely he would make no more of an impression in North London than he did in West London.

2. Cirprian Marica

The striker ended all speculation when he signed for Getafe last summer, but the rumours continued in winter when Arsene Wenger was looking for an additional striker.

3. Carlton Cole

Without any official word, rumours spread in 2010 suggesting Cole could be on Wenger’s wanted-list, but nothing materialised, as the player continued his spell at West Ham United.

4. Kevin Doyle

Doyle is a proven Championship scorer, but has yet not proved that he can carry the weight of being Arsenal’s (or any other Premier League side’s) main striker and deliver 20+ goals a season for a top flight club.

5. Odil Ahmedov

With players like Andrey Arshavin already played for the club in the past, this rumor was easy to make, but had no substance behind it.
