Arsenal vs FC Basel: Match Preview & Prediction

Wenger is positive ahead of Arsenal’s second Champions League game of the season. The Frenchman was very happy with the way the team performed against Chelsea and plans on using the team’s growing morale to get their first 3 CL points of the group stages.

“We had a good game on Saturday but let’s show that we can go from good game to good game and put the effort in every single game. That’s what it is about.”

“What pleased me most was the relentless team energy, the fact that we kept going no matter what the result was, and that we respected what we planned together. That’s a sign of maturity. “

“Our game is about style and steel, and we combined both. That was pleasing. “

“Every time it’s a new challenge but I believe the humility is to accept that” – Wenger said, as reported by the BBC.

When it comes to Basel, Wenger made some valid points. While the Swiss side is not the most threatening adversary Arsenal have encountered, they have the habit of surprising the world with their performances against Premier League teams.

“They have beaten everybody in England – Man United, Chelsea and Liverpool. They have strong results in Europe”. – Wenger said

Hopefully the Gunners will not join the other three on the list of English teams Basel have managed to defeat.

In terms of lot, Coquelin and Giroud have been added to the already existing list of unavailable players. This will give Xhaka the chance to play and perform against his brother just as he did at Euro 2016. Coquelin’s state just got an update, shared by Wenger with the press:

“He is out for the game tomorrow, but it should be a short-term injury because the scan was quite positive and I think it will be three weeks out.”

“It’s positive because last year during this period we got some bad news and a few long-term injuries and it was a handicap in our season. After you play always the same players and you lose a little bit of your edge physically. The fact is we have a compact squad, but of top quality, so to keep everybody together is a big plus.”

Regardless of the absences, Arsenal still have a solid lot to count on. Opsina will most likely be taking Cech’s place while the rest of the team will remain the same as the one against Chelsea (minus the mentioned absences). Perez is unlikely to start but could be sent on as a sub further into the game.

We are predicting a 3-1 win for the Gunners carrying on their good form from the Chelsea match.
