Arsenal Upping The Ante In Hunt For Firepower

Jamie Vardy has left for France without confirming or denying his rumored transfer to Arsenal. As with Xhaka though, the reports regarding his move to the Emirates look very closely tied to the truth. Liverpool have denied interest in the England international and all other Top 4 contending teams look to have their attack secured in other ways. Vardy would be the missing piece of the puzzle for Wenger who needs someone who will score more than 20 goals in a Premier League season. With Giroud, things have always been difficult as he lacked consistency. It’s tough seeing him perform the way he performs right now for France because it is very likely that something will happen and he will lose momentum right when the Gunners need him most. That would be Vardy’s queue to step in and balance things out. It would be rather a good way to bring depth to the attack.

Most have asked themselves and are probably still asking if Vardy will be the same next year and most importantly, if he will be the same if he joins Arsenal. According to The Guardian, Wenger might have found a way to make sure Leicester’s striker remains just as productive as he was during the 2015-2016 season. The Frenchman is looking to also sign Riyad Mahrez who next to Vardy was a key element in Leicester’s amazing Premier League success. These two combined have scored 41 Premier League goals which is 2/3rds of what the Gunners scored this past season. Let’s say we put aside Giroud’s goals and count the rest of the goals the team scored. Sanchez got 13 and Ozil got 6. Ramsey has 5 and Walcott who has 5 as well but would play in the same position as Mahrez. If Arsenal had Leicester’s winger and Vardy, they would have been the Premier League’s best scoring team with 81 goals, a number that can win you the title.

While the idea of signing both Vardy and Mahrez might sound a bit over the top, so did that of signing Ozil or Sanchez from Real and Barcelona. Leicester, even though it is sad to say, seem to be crumbling with key players linked to big clubs such as PSG, Manchester United and more. Even Leicester’s own Shinji Okazaki admitted the future is a bit blurry for the Premier League champions. He also suggested that Vardy might be better off trying to win a new title rather than trying to defend this one. “Arsenal have not won the league for a long time and that is maybe a dream Vardy has. He has won the league with Leicester and if he led Arsenal to the title rather than try and help Leicester defend it, then his stock would rise even further.” Nothing about Mahrez but hopefully if Vardy comes to the Emirates, his teammate will follow. With rumors of Oxlade-Chamberlain and even Walcott seeking more time on the pitch elsewhere, signing the two Leicester men would be a massive boost. It is believed that they will come with a price tag of around £50million. Everyone would be happy seeing these two at the Emirates and it is very unlikely fans will clamour for more transfers considering Xhaka’s signature has also been secured for next season.
