Arsenal To Make Deadline Day Striker Signing?

Arsenal’s search for a striker has gone on all summer long. Fans and pundits alike have called for Wenger to splash the cash on a new No.9, with the side having just Olivier Giroud as their only out and out striker. Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck could potentially play a part up-front, but it is clear that Wenger sees them more as wide players.

Wenger has given up on his pursuit of Karim Benzema, a striker who the Gunners have been linked with for months. As a result, the Frenchman has turned to Ligue 1 striker Edinson Cavani, a player who despite suffering with poor form in recent times, is still known as one of the best around.

Cavani has been linked with a move away from the French giants for the last couple of years, even though he only joined PSG in 2013. He has seen his chances as a striker limited due to Ibrahimovic’s presence in the squad, leaving Cavani to play often as a winger.

Now, with Di Maria joining the Paris side, Cavani could see his chances further limited. Arsenal’s interest could prove to be too much to decline for the Uruguayan.

Cavani scored 78 goals in just over 100 appearances for Italian side Napoli before moving to PSG in 2013 for £50m. His time at the French club has been a relative success, but he certainly hasn’t hit the heights that he managed in the 12/13 season.

Spanish publication Fichajes are claiming that Arsenal are readying a bid for the 28-year-old, with Cavani said to be keen on a move. £44m would do it according to the source, but will Wenger cough up?
