The 27-year-old Gustavo was linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer but was a Wolfsburg player come August. The Gunners were in the market for a defensive midfielder but failed to strengthen in that position.

Their defensive frailties have already been exposed this season and they are definitely in need of a new shield in front of their back four. Gustavo has been linked with a January move to the Gunners but the Brazilian has claimed that he is happy at the Volkswagen Arena, according to the Daily Star.

He said, “I am very happy, VfL Wolfsburg is a great club to play for and I like living in Germany and the German mentality. I feel my future is here and I am able to imagine playing on for many years, because I identify with the city of Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg is a workers’ city, this suits me.”

Based on what we saw of Gustavo at the World Cup, Arsenal won’t be missing much.
