Arsenal Target 23 Year Old Swiss International

Arsene Wenger has returned to one of his summer transfer period priorities as Fabian Schar has turned down Basel and is not giving them the opportunity of keeping him in Switzerland after his contract expires in 2016. The 23 year old is one of the highest rated center backs in Europe, managing to perform better with each game. According to TalkSport, the youngster who is also on West Ham’s wanted list, might become a priority for Wenger who has yet to find a strong defender to be permanently paired with Paulista or Koscielny. Mertesacker seems to be slowing and could part ways with Arsenal this summer.

Schar has a similar playing style to that of Vermaelen who has been missed since leaving Emirates. The 23 year old Swiss international has just managed his 5th international goal which gives him a better scoring rate than many strikers out there. In his 10 games in which he was featured to represent his home country, the defender stood out not only through his goals but through his impeccable defensive skills.

Since joining Basel, Schar has grown massively in value, being now rumored to cost around £10m. Joining Arsenal looks like a smart move for the 23 year old who seems ready to take on a bigger challenge. He has gained experience from Basel’s Champions League encounters and looks to have the physique to tackle the Premier League. Unfortunately there is a downside. Schar has suffered some difficult injuries which include a torn ankle joint ligament, two knee injuries, muscle strains and a sprained ankle. It is a quite a list for a 23 year old player especially one who is thinking of coming to the UK.
