Arsenal Negotiating Sagna Replacement

According to Metro, Arsenal are one step closer to signing Feyenoord full back Daryl Janmaat, after contract talks regarding an extension between the player and the Dutch club broke down officially as the club announced the matter on their official website.

Arsenal will make a series of additions to their squad in the summer, as the board room have realised the potential of success under Arsene Wenger’s coaching methods if he is given just a bit more squad depth. After dominating the Barclays Premier League for nearly half the season, depth in the squad has cost them crucial points in recent months. The defensive partnership of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker was touted as one to excel throughout the season, but the side has run out of steam without credible alternatives available to Wenger to help them in defence and elsewhere.

Janmaat began his career with Feyenoord in the club’s youth academy in 1995, and spent more than a decade developing his game. However, the 24-year old chose not to sign a professional contract with the club, and moved to Den Haag instead. His spell at Den Haag did not last long, as he was on the move the very next season to Heerenveen. In 2012, he secured a move back to Feyenoord, and has excelled ever since.

Janmaat is younger than Sagna and might just be the man to replace him long-term.
