Arsenal March On As Sunderland Are Swept Aside

It was a pleasure to watch Arsenal play against Sunderland. The Gunners have reached a game-level which puts them in a league of their own at the moment. Since losing to Liverpool, they have proved again and again that their first game of the season was a blip and that they could probably beat any team given the form they are currently in. While some may argue that Sunderland are last in the Premier League and that they haven’t posed much of a threat to any of their adversaries, the truth is that Arsenal would have played the same regardless of who they were facing.

Sanchez is looking better and better with each game and according to Wenger, has found comfort in his new position as a striker or a false 9. Oxlade-Chamberlain is in great form and has proven a worthy substitute for Walcott who unfortunately has picked up a small injury. He still remains the team’s top scorer so he will likely be Wenger’s number one pick for most of the season. Ozil’s passing is spot-on and his contribution to the attack is more visible than ever. He also seems to be shooting more and thereby is scoring more which is great given the way Wenger is building his formation this year.

Shkodran Mustafi is looking solid as an Arsenal player. The German international is developing a strong and efficient bond with Koscielny next to whom he will probably spend the rest of the season. Mertesacker will need time before he could return as part of the starting eleven which means Koscielny-Mustafi is the central defensive duo to focus on.

Aside from the players who usually start games, there are two more names worth mentioning. Gibbs and Giroud put in top-notch performances this Saturday, with the Frenchman actually winning the game for Arsenal. Perhaps Gibbs should be used more often while Giroud showed how valuable he is at the Emirates as an alternative for the attack. Against Sunderland he showed he is world-class and that given the right service he will deliver.

Last but not least we need to mention Ramsey who returned after spending quite a lot of time in the treatment room. While his return did not have the biggest impact on the way the team played, he did show quality in his game. Hopefully he will be back to full fitness as the Gunners can use his creativity especially in the Champions League.
