Arsenal Looking At Benfica Star?

If recent reports emerging from the media are to be believed, the Gunners are on a massive summer rebuilding spree as they look to assemble a squad capable of challenging for top domestic and European honors next season. They have considerably reduced their debt on the Emirates Stadium and have struck up new deals with Emirates and Puma which are set to boost their bank balance. They are also offloading the club’s dead wood to free up their wages for new players. The London club are in a very good financial position this summer and are finally capable of offering the huge transfer sums required to attract big name players.

They have been looking to boost their front line and have hence been linked to strikers like Gonzalo Higuain and Wayne Rooney in recent weeks. A need to strengthen their midfield has also been identified, hence they are also being linked to midfielders like former captain Cesc Fabregas, Everton’s giant Belgian Marouane Fellaini and young French star Clement Grenier along with defender Ashley Williams and goalkeepers like Julio Cesar and Simon Mignolet.

Reports brewing in the media are suggesting that manager Arsene Wenger is now eyeing up a move for Benfica’s Gaitan. The Argentine international had an impressive outing last year and was instrumental in his club’s march to the UEFA Europa League final, however he could not do much to avoid defeat to eventual champions Chelsea. Metro reports that Wenger has been discussing Gaitan’s name at length within the top circles at the club, and is seriously contemplating making a bid for his services.

The only problem is that the 25-year old’s contract has a buy-out clause set at a massive £40 million. Wenger and Arsenal’s intentions and seriousness regarding Gaitan will be tested to the limit with this gigantic valuation. Do you feel that Arsenal will go ahead and splash the cash on him, or will the huge buy-out clause put them off?
