Arsenal Linked With Celtic Defender!

The Gunners are very light at the back and had to play teenager Hector Bellerin at right-back following Calum Chambers’ suspension during their 2-2 draw at home against Hull City. Injury to Lorient Koscielny also forced Wenger to deploy Nacho Monreal at centre-back alongside Per Mertesacker in the weekend’s encounter.

The Frenchman has already confirmed his desire to beef up the defence in January and the north London side have been linked with a move for central defender Virgil van Dijk of Celtic.

The 23-year-old started his career in Netherlands with FC Groningen before earning a move to Scottish champions Celtic in 2013. The Dutchman was part of Celtic’s defence which went 1215 minutes without conceding a goal last season.

Ray Parlour believes Arsenal should snap up van Dijk as the defender would be perfect for them, according to talkSPORT. He said, “Van Dijk would be a good signing. Arsenal look really short at the back. Koscielny is out now for a little while, which is another blow.”

“Arsene is just hoping he can get through to January. He’s got to go out and buy a couple of defenders. He needs to strengthen if they’re going to have a serious run on the Premier League title. You need to have a big squad.”

Well the Romford Pele certainly has a point as even if we don’t have anymore serious injuries we still need more depth.
