Arsene Wenger is yet to sign a centre-back as he claimed he would when club captain Thomas Vermaelen left the club to join Luis Enrique at Barcelona. Time is running out for the Frenchman to strengthen in the centre-back department and it seems he may be ready to make some impulsive buys just to add numbers to Arsenal’s ranks.

Wenger is contemplating a move for West Ham centre-back Winston Reid, according to the Mirror. The 26-year-old just has one year left on his contract before it expires and Wenger is confident that he could land his man for a cut-price fee.

The New Zealand international has plenty of Premier League experience having played nearly 100 league games for West Ham since joining in 2010 from FC Midtjylland. However, many Gunners fans would naturally have doubts whether the defender can make the step up to Arsenal’s level.

Arsenal have also been linked with other centre-backs like Olympiakos centre-half Kostas Manolas and Liverpool’s Daniel Agger.
