Arsenal Legend Backs Striker Move

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has given his approval for the transfer of Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid. The Frenchman is one of the finest strikers to ever play in the Premier League and knows a thing or two about a good striker when he sees one.

Morata has recently moved from Juventus back to his home team Real Madrid after 2 years with the Italians. The transfer came after the Spanish side activated a buy-back clause in his contract.

However, despite the transfer and the fact Madrid themselves are after a striker this summer – Los Blancos are reportedly ready to sell the striker immediately in order to make a big profit, with Madrid asking for a potential fee of £50+ million.

Arsenal have already splashed out £35million on highly rated central midfielder Granit Xhaka, and now it seems Wenger is ready to turn his attention to bringing in a striker – and Morata seems the perfect fit.

Morata’s time at the Euros is up after Spain were knocked out on Monday at the hands of Italy. It will come as a big disappointment to many, as Morata was definitely a bright spark in the Spanish team.

Henry in particular was left very impressed by Morata’s style of play during his time in the tournament, comparing him to fellow countryman Fernando Torres.

The Frenchman said:

“Alvaro Morata reminds me of Torres.” He told BBC Sport before Spain’s 2-0 defeat Italy.

“He doesn’t want to do a lot in terms of dropping, coming into play but he just wants to go in behind.”

“He doesn’t want to come short, he wants to score goals. That’s what I love about him.”

The 23-year-old would certainly be proud of the compliment, with Torres being rated as one of Spain’s best strikers of all time. The Atletico Madrid man also scored an impressive 85 goals during his time in the Premier League with Liverpool and Chelsea.

Morata’s agent has previously confirmed various clubs are interested in his clients services, stirring the transfer pot more.

“He still has offers from top clubs in the Premier League.”

“We’ll see, we have to talk to [Real Madrid head coach] Zidane. But for the moment Morata is happy. Whether he’ll stay or not, you have to ask Real Madrid.”

“But as things stand he’s a Madrid player from 1 July.”
