Arsenal Keen On Signing Defender Manolas

Arsene Wenger has identied Kostas Manolas as the man to replace Thomas Vermaelen at the heart of Arsenal’s defence. The club captain departed for Barcelona earlier this month and Wenger has admitted he will sign a defender if he can.

He has reportedly cast his eye on Manolas and believes that the 23-year-old could be his most realistic option at centre-back, according to the Telegraph. In fact, some reports have already indicated that a move is very much on the cards.

With Laurient Koscielny and Per Mertesacker firmly established as Wenger’s first-choice centre-back pairing, the only obstacle in the transfer of Manolas will be whether he accepts not to be an automatic starter at the club.

The impressive displays of teenager Calum Chambers could further push him down the pecking order. However, Wenger is desperate to recruit the Greek and will offer him a considerable pay rise to try and clinch the deal.
