Arsenal Have A Few Last Options To Add Defensive Depth

The transfer market is a pretty tough place to be in right now especially if you are a Premier League club. Everyone knows giants like Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City and Man United are able to pay as much as needed for players out there. If Newcastle who dropped to the Championship last season have already spent around £40million on transfers, one can only imagine how overpriced players are when an offer comes from the UK. Wenger underlined the downside of giving in to such scenarios and is trying as much as possible to pay the right price for players. Unfortunately it`s hard to agree to decent terms right now when everyone knows Arsenal are in desperate need of a center-back and a striker. Because of this there is a chance that the North Londoners will fail in bringing in someone like Mustafi who a few days back was waiting on Valencia to agree with Arsenal on his transfer fee. If negotiations fail, here are three options, two of which might involve a loan deal.

  1. Marcel Tisserand – AS Monaco.

This 23 year-old center-back has spent most of his career on loan up until now. He has made just 6 appearances for his parent club but managed to become a team regular for the latest club (FC Toulouse) he signed with. According to TalkSport he is planning on leaving on another loan this season with Arsenal being a possible destination. The best thing about Tisserand is that he has suffered no injury up until now and that he is on an ascending trend. Wenger could get a lot out of this 23-year-old who would probably not say no to the chance of making a few appearances in the Premier League and even the Champions League.

  1. Loïc Perrin – Saint-Étienne

Perrin has spent all his life in France and is now Saint-Étienne’s captain. He hasn’t extended his contract with his current club and has missed half of last season’s games after not being included in the squad. He did have some reoccurring thigh problems and a cruciate ligament rupture but those days seem to be in the past for him as he has not suffered any other injury since 2014. He would bring experience to the table and could even be brought in on loan for 6 months until things settle with Mertesacker and Gabriel. Again, the idea of playing for a club like Arsenal should be more than enough to convince him to sign even if it is a loan deal.

  1. Yohan Tavares

Tavares is currently unattached and is looking for a new club. He left Estoril Praia as the team captain and with 35 appearances last season. Due to some financial expectations which were not met, he decided not to extend his contract. He would do some good for Arsenal if given the chance. He is free right now and what is most impressive regarding his career is that even though he is 28, he has never suffered a major injury.

Again, these are the last resorts for Wenger and may not be players who would normally be on Wenger’s radar. Hopefully Arsenal will find a way to secure a solid defender. If all fails, these guys would probably do a decent job while playing at the Emirates.
