Arsenal Get Capital One Boost From Unexpected Hero

Wenger should be given a lot of credit for finding the right way to motivate the team after two very unpleasant defeats. Starting players like Ospina, Gibbs, Flamini, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Arteta made the difference against the Spurs. Not sure if seeing the usual starting eleven on the pitch would have given this game the same outcome. Tottenham were very good and managing a win against them showed character. They had at least two great chances to score but were denied by Ospina and Gibbs who saved what could have been one of the goals of the season for Harry Kane.

TOTTENHAM – 1

(Chambers 56’ OG)

  • Shots: 13
  • On target: 4
  • Possession: 55%
  • Corners: 7
  • Fouls: 10

ARSENAL – 2

(Flamini 26’, 78’)

  • Shots: 13
  • On target: 6
  • Possession: 45%
  • Corners: 4
  • Fouls: 14

Without a doubt Flamini was the man of the match and saved Arsenal from making their 3rd consecutive mistake of the season in three different competitions. The Frenchman was in the right spot at the perfect time and showed fans that he can still help the team when needed. The scary thing is that the Gunners showed big gaps in the defense which seems to be the biggest problem of the season. Spending money on Cech might not just be enough for Arsenal as players like Chambers and Debuchy look very insecure. Oxlade-Chamberlain on the other hand gives Wenger no reason to keep him on the bench. Once again he was one of the best players out there and probably made a lot of people wonder why he is not replacing others in the starting line-up. Hopefully we will see the 22-year-old start on Saturday against Leicester City.
