Arsenal Due For An Overhaul

Despite the fact that Arsenal have made some massive investments over the summer, they still need a lot of new players to become a team that is able to challenge Europe’s greats. According to the Daily Star, Alisher Usmanov, the second biggest shareholder financing Arsenal, is convinced that results will come once the money starts going out on transfers. The Gunners have already impressed this summer by spending a whopping £79million on new players. Unfortunately that proved to be insufficient for a club who wants to win it all. Despite managing to finally end the trophy drought, the North Londoners still fail to take their challenge to the end. The Premier League is an endurance race for which the Gunners do not have the necessary stamina to finish. With endless injuries and with players having to recover and then play and then recover from injury, Arsenal have a really hard time keeping up with the likes of Chelsea or City who can also use one of two teams to perform in any competition.

Usmanov told the press that if it were for him to decide, Arsenal would have to completely change their attitude towards transferring expensive players. It seems that using youngsters who developed within the academy is not enough. In order to compete with Chelsea or Bayern, massive investments should be made. Basically, Arsenal will have to go through at least two more transfer sessions like the one they managed to pull this summer. Hopefully now that the stadium is paid, they will direct most of their funds towards transferring new players if the outspoken Usmanov has anything to do with it.
