Arsenal Defense In Trouble Ahead of Manchester United Clash

Arsenal are in a spot of trouble before the clash against title rivals, Manchester United who seem to have the upper hand in terms of morale. The atmosphere at the Emirates is not great especially after the game against Olympiakos when the Gunners failed to land their first 3 points of this Champions League season. Right after the match, Per Mertesacker admitted that the defense was naïve and that some of his teammates did not contribute equally to helping the defenders. “I felt we were a bit exposed. There was no one on the edge of the box. We should have done much better, especially having come back and had a lot of possession in the second half.

“We rushed a bit and not everyone came back to a defensive position, like we should have done. After we scored it looked like we were not ready to win this game. There was a lack of concentration, a lack of discipline. We need to do much better defensively on these occasions because these occasions decide more and more games in modern football. When we play like that, with that lack of concentration and discipline, we have got no chance”.

According to the Guardian, The World Cup winner does not have a positive prediction regarding the Champions League but is confident the Premier League trophy is closer to Arsenal than ever this season. It would be a pity to give up on the Champions League despite the two lost matches and the upcoming games against Bayern who look even scarier than in previous years.
