Arsenal Continue To Admire Colombian Striker Jackson Martinez

Arsenal look to have beaten off competition from various clubs, in order to sign Colombian striker Jackson Martinez. His club, Porto, have reportedly admitted they’re ready to sell.

As reports earlier in the month in Metro claimed, Martinez is Arsene Wenger’s top summer target, and would see him as a marquee signing for the club.

Porto have previously resisted a number of offers from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, Napoli and Chelsea were two clubs said to be interested in their star man, but president Pinto da Costa says a deal is now on the cards for the end of the season, if the right price is met.

Arsenal are planning to offer £29.5million for Martinez, which should activate his release clause. However, should Arsenal sign Martinez, it would put question marks over the futures of Arsenal’s army of forwards at the club. The likes of Giroud, Welbeck, Akpom and Walcott all seemingly suited for the striking role so it begs the question where would Martinez fit in?

Other Premiership clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City have previously sniffed around but it seems like Arsenal are now the front-runners.
