Arsenal Consider Brazilian For Number One Spot

Arsenal are considering Fiorentina goalkeeper Norberto Neto as their potential number one at the end of the season, after Wojciech Szczesny has effectively been dropped for the last three matche after another controversy that has hit his reputation at the club, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners are a club that run on discipline and beautiful football, and even though they have let flamboyant players have a personality off the pitch, discipline has been a key policy. Unfortunately, the club have seen several players break this code of conduct over the past few years, right from star players like Jack Wilshere, who was caught smoking at a nightclub, to not so regular first team players like Nicklas Bendtner. The goalkeeping position has troubled Arsenal ever since Jens Lehmann left the club, and just when it looked like Szczesny solved the problem, he was caught in a controversy where he was caught smoking after Arsenal’s loss against Southampton away this season. The Poland international has been dropped from the starting eleven, giving David Ospina the chance to impress Arsene Wenger ahead of the second half of the season.

Neto began his career at Atletico Paranaense in native Brazil, and soon joined the senior team. After 36 appearances for the club, Fiorentina came calling, and Neto was off to Italy, where he has made 59 league appearances for the club. The club have announced Neto will not be extending his contract further so he may well be an option for the Gunners.
