Arsenal Close In On One Of Borussia Dortmund’s Main Men

Arsenal are looking to close this summer transfer window with a couple of late bids. Apparently, Wenger is more open to bringing in new players than he ever was. According to Metro, the Frenchman admitted that he will add new players to the squad especially after Arteta and Giroud picked up some unexpected injuries. The Gunners will want to avoid a situation similar to that of last season when they had a lot of trouble completing the starting line-up due to the players’ health issues.

With Vermaelen moving to Barcelona, Arsenal are in need of a new central defender. Despite the fact that Chambers has the ability to perform in almost any defensive position, it is still necessary to have a center back ready to step in for Mertesacker or Koscielny. The best solution seems to come from Germany as Wenger is planning to offer Borussia £10.9million for 26 year old Sokratis Papastathopoulos. The Greek international who has been with the German side for only one year is not an easy target though. It seems that the former Werder Bremen man will end up costing Wenger a bit more than what he first offered. Rumors have it that Dortmund are looking to double their investment. Papastathopoulos cost them around £7million which means they will not settle for a lot less than £14million. Hopefully, the two sides will reach some sort of agreement before the end of the transfer window which is just a day away.

Dortmund may be looking to sell an asset after their move in bringing back playmaker Shinji Kagawa on a four year deal from Manchester United so Wenger can hopefully take advantage.
