Arsenal Close In On City After 5 Goal Thriller

Arsenal managed an excellent game against Swansea who, if not for Xhaka’s undisciplined performance, should have finished 90 minutes with a big 0 on the score board as opposed to the 3-2 final scoreline. Walcott was almost perfect and reminded fans what he is capable of. If he does manage to stay away from injury for an entire season, he might become one of the team’s top scorers next to Sanchez. Hopefully the medical staff will take good care of Wenger’s players who seem to have finally found their form.

The right wing is brilliant with Walcott and Bellerin being able to outrun any adversary. The two work well together as seen against Swansea who were unable to keep up with the two throughout the entire game. Ozil is also in amazing form. He is starting to know exactly where his teammates are or will be which for a player like him means he will be deadly against any team. He is also scoring just as a true No.10 should be doing.

Cazorla, Sanchez, Koscielny and Mustafi are also worth mentioning. The central defensive duo deserves a big “thumbs up” as they are starting to complete each other very well. If they stay fit, Arsenal will finally get that secure feeling that every team needs in order to completely focus on winning rather than on not conceding goals. With Cech in goal and with a constantly growing Bellerin and a precise Monreal, things are looking unexpectedly sweet for the Gunners.

Now for the negatives: Xhaka was very close to killing the game for his team. The £35million star was off his game and could not recover after losing the ball that got Swansea their first goal. He was sent off for a nasty foul and just as Wenger pointed out, caused unnecessary trouble for his colleagues during the last few minutes of the game. Here is what Arsenal’s boss said after the game:

“I have some mixed feelings because it looked at some points comfortable and then it never was.

“We have the same number of points as Manchester City so it’s down to us to continue.

“If you look at the game the potential is very interesting but we have to be intelligent enough to improve.” [Quotes sourced from the BBC].

Indeed, the potential is immense at the Emirates. Wenger is entering the last few months of his Arsenal contract and many say that he should let someone else take over. Honestly, this is not the time for him to leave though. The team hasn’t looked this good in years and even with a decade of failed attempts to claim the title, Wenger should continue with the Londoners. If not this year, next year will surely be the Gunners’ year. They have all they need to win big, as long as they figure out how to handle injuries.
