Arsenal Back On Song?

Arsenal could be interested in bringing back defensive midfielder Alex Song from Barcelona, after the Cameroon international has not established a place at the Catalan giants and will be looking for regular first team football, according to the Daily Mail.

Arsene Wenger has been responsible for the success of several players that have come out of the shadows from various different countries, and Song is the perfect example of the same. The 26-year old was brought to Arsenal by Wenger from French outfit Bastia on loan in 2005, and Song signed a permanent deal the following year. Song quickly established a reputation for being a ruthless midfielder who was not only efficient in protecting the back four, but also distributing play to the attacking players. By 2012, Song was one of the most reliable defensive midfielders in the Barclays Premier League and Barcelona bid for his services. Due to Arsenal’s consistent struggles to win silverware, Song succumbed to the temptation of moving into one of the biggest clubs in Spain, and signed a permanent contract for then manager Pep Guardiola.

With the presence of proven winners in Sergio Busquets, Song could not break into the first team on a consistent basis, and has made just 65 appearances in all competitions in his two-year spell so far. Ever since Song moved to Camp Nou, Wenger has struggled to replace the player, and would likely welcome a return in this window.
