Arsenal 3 – 0 Chelsea: Match Report

The Gunners played their best game of the season against a Chelsea side that did not pose any threat at any point during the game. It was a pleasure to watch both the attack and the defense which is not something Arsenal fans were able to say about any of the games up until now. Iwobi was great, Sanchez was sharp and accurate and Ozil was a delight.

Walcott was excellent, Mustafi worked incredibly well with Koscielny and Bellerin showed he is growing into the ultimate right-back. Seeing the Spaniard catching Pedro who is one of the fastest wingers in the PL was something to talk about. Last but not least Chech is definitely worth mentioning as he kept a clean sheet despite Batshuayi’s late chance to score. Arsenal looked like the perfect squad tonight and hopefully they will manage to maintain the same rhythm for the next couple of months.

Wenger was clearly happy with the way things went:

“It was an outstanding team performance. We played with spirit and collective pace and movement, always in a positive and committed team way.

“Our defenders have done extremely well. You cannot say one player was not at the right level from Petr Cech to Alexis Sanchez.

“We wanted to start strong in a high pace and committed way. We started wobbly in the first 20 minutes against Southampton. We wanted to be consistent in our pressure no matter the score. We did it very well in the first half. It was in and out in the second, which was understandable.

“Ideally you want the perfect game and you never get it. We got nearly the perfect first half and that is not bad. Football doesn’t care for history and the anniversaries, just the result on the day. Today we had a good performance.”

Conte admitted to have failed to motivate the players to a level which should have been at least close to what Arsenal showed. The Gunners were the more focused and determined team.

“I think that we didn’t have the right attitude from the first minute.

“After today we are thinking we must work a lot because we are a great team only on paper. It is always a team problem rather than individuals, when nothing works it is very hard for a player to play well. [Quotes provided by the BBC]

So Wenger gets a rare win over JM -,let’s face it the Frenchamn was due and this Arsenal team might just have a special something this year – they never beat (Chelsea) but maybe the tide is turning.

Arsenal now await for FC Basel in their second Champions League game of this season. If they keep it up, they will surely get a great result.
