Arsenal 1 – 0 Norwich – Match Report

It was a difficult game for Arsenal who had trouble up front mostly during the first half. Giroud was inconsistent and despite having scored 12 Premier League goals this season, he still disappoints when it comes to statistics. There is a lot to take from this game despite the fact that Arsenal are not playing for much. It`s hard to believe they could lose their Champions League spot to West Ham or United. We make the following observations after the game:

  1. Wenger may have found the key to next year’s success in terms of attack. Giroud is not part of that future plan. Iwobi, Welbeck and Sanchez are probably the best way Arsenal can tackle what is to come. Iwobi needs more experience while Sanchez and Welbeck need to get over their injuries and start playing at full capacity. Hopefully, improving the mental state of the strikers will finally help the Gunners produce a top scorer.
  2. Bellerin, Iwobi and Elneny will get better and better with time. With more games, these guys will bring even more quality to Arsenal’s game. One thing worth mentioning is that Wenger was the one who promoted them and that the Frenchman deserves a lot of respect for that.
  3. Ozil and Sanchez are not very happy. Wenger smiled in the post-match interviews when he was asked about the Chilean’s reaction when substituted. Apparently, giving the French boss the cold shoulder when leaving the pitch is Sanchez’s way of saying he wants to play the full 90 minutes. Wenger did not seem at all bothered though and pointed out that he knows is players well and that a victory is more important than personal ambitions. Ozil had a different kind of attitude. Unfortunately, it was still the kind of attitude that showed frustration. The German international did not look happy when his teammates failed to understand his intentions. It`s been a long season though and it is very likely the World Cup winner will be fine for the next Premier League game.
  4. Gabriel is an excellent defender. With more time spent on the pitch, he could be a great solution for Wenger’s defending line. He might need to work on his temper but other than that he seems to be getting along great with Bellerin, Koscielny and Monreal.

Arsenal now head to Manchester to face City in what will be the game that decides where the Gunners finish this season. Due to the importance of the game it is very unlikely to see Wilshere or Cazorla playing. Honestly it would probably be best to keep them off the pitch and get them involved in the training games to come rather than one of the two clashes left of this season.
