Abou Diaby Set For Arsenal Departure

Abou Diaby Set For Arsenal Departure

With his contract set to expire in June, Diaby does not have much to look forward to. According to the Daily Telegraph, the Frenchman is no longer going to be part of Wenger’s team. After a series of injuries that prevented him from making more than 16 appearances in over 4 years, Arsenal are considering not extending the midfielder’s deal. Diaby has been a Gunner for almost a decade is probably one of the most injury predisposed footballers in history. In his 9 years spent in London he gathered almost 1000 days in recovery. It is a mystery how he managed to stay with the club for so long though as he has been unavailable for almost half of the time he should have played for Arsenal.

Unfortunately for Diaby, Wenger’s optimism has gone down compared to the beginning of the season. It looked like his fellow compatriot will finally return to the pitch and claim his spot as a defensive midfielder. Injury struck again though and sent the 28 year old off for another agonizing three months. The former French International has little to no options as his frail physique has prevented him from playing football at the highest level possible. It is very unlikely that he will find a club to sign with in June. Arsenal have done a lot for him though and no hard feelings will be involved in the player’s departure.
